Our AR word count competition is in full swing here at NDMS! Check out the 1st nine weeks word count tally for each grade level below:

6th Grade- 9,021,141

7th Grade- 8,069,451

8th Grade- 8,083,056

Each week, the grade level with the most words read gets to celebrate by displaying the AR trophy at the front of their hallway and are allowed the opportunity to wear spirit attire the following Monday!! 

Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes each day. Research has shown that these students perform well above average in class and on standardized tests. In addition to academic success, learning to love reading will only enhance students' lives.

Accelerated Reader (AR) is the most popular and successful reading product of all time. AR’s advanced technology personalizes reading practice to each student’s current level and builds a lifelong love of reading and learning. With the new Accelerated Reader Enterprise program we have at our school, our students have access to over 140,000 quizzes. They are not limited to books at our school.  You might have books at home or from the public library that your child can read that are a part of the AR program. Students cannot test from home, but they can take tests at school on books from home.

Here at school we do everything we can to encourage reading and AR with our students!

Every Friday in the gym, before the students go to class, we show a slide show that reveals each grade’s AR points for the week and we announce the winner.  

Teachers have set individual AR goals for each student and the students who reach their goal at the end of each nine weeks will be recognized. We are also setting class goals.

Reading Success is as Easy as 1-2-3 with AR!

1. Student Reads a Book. Students choose books at the appropriate reading levels and read them at their own pace.

2. Student Takes a Quiz. Accelerated Reader Enterprise offers more than 140,000 quizzes to help motivate and monitor students’ reading performance and vocabulary growth.

3. You Get Information. You get immediate feedback on the reading and vocabulary progress of each student.

How Parents Can Get Involved:

With the new Renaissance Home Connect, you can be involved by logging on from your home computer. Renaissance is fun, easy-to-use, easy-to-understand and web-based. You, along with you child can:

• monitor progress toward reading goals

• conduct book searches using AR Bookfinder (this gives you a list of all AR quizzes available)

• review results on AR quizzes

• view number of books read, words read, and quizzes passed

• click Email Setup to sign up to receive emails showing your student’s quiz or test results
