Early Voting April 13-20
Superintendent Corley responds to questions about tax statements and clears up how to use the tax calculator to check your impact if the April 27 North DeSoto Bond Plan is approved. The cost to the taxpayer depends on the value of your home. For example, a $300,000 home in District No. 2 (North DeSoto) with a homestead exemption of $75,000 would have an adjusted taxable value of $225,000 which would be assessed at 10%. The increase from a millage of 3.6 to 22 would result in an annual increase of $414 per year or $34.50 per month. https://youtu.be/tQnAKoEE-iI

Featured Frequently Asked Question: The State of Louisiana usually requires districts to wait a year after a failed bond, how is the DeSoto Parish School Board able to hold another election so quickly? The State Bond Commission oversees all of the bond elections and issuance in the state. They met on February 15, 2024 and voted to allow the DeSoto Parish School Board to hold the April 27 election. This approval is largely due to the overall need in the district and the large change in scope and costs to the previous proposal. The Bond Commission does not always approve these follow-up elections, but felt that voters should be able to review the new proposal and cast a vote as soon as possible. https://www.desotopsb.com/page/nd-bond-24-faq-and-resources

Question Mark
Featured Frequently Asked Question: Doesn't the district offer universal PreK? Can’t everyone attend PreK? DeSoto Parish Schools are proud to offer Universal PreK, but sadly due to space constraints in District 2, while anyone can apply to be on the waiting list for PreK, we can no longer guarantee admission into PreK and are operating with a waitlist. A three-year-old option was available during the 2023-24 school year, but because of increased demand for four-year-old PreK and Kindergarten classrooms, the program has been eliminated for the 2024-25 school year. The bond plan includes expansions at the lower elementary to be able to offer additional sections of preschool and eliminate the waitlist. https://www.desotopsb.com/page/nd-bond-24-faq-and-resources
